History of the Domain, Part IVPart
I - Part II -
Part III - Part IV - Part V -
Part VI At his time, Isaac fully broke away from the Camarilla, under the witness of Archon Jason Wineguard of Clan Tremere, under the late Nosferatu Justicar. Issac then changed the title of the position to "Baron" and in other ways changed the city to his way of thinking. During this time, there were many attempts to manipulate Issac and the city to fall under Camarilla or Sabbat control, all rejected. The city also fought a severe hunter problem during this reign, which ended with Issac having a stronger hold on the city as a sole power ... on a political island. Prince Isaac was assassinated, throwing the city back into political chaos. He was assassinated by an Assamite who had been hired by Kelly and Solomon, both of Clan Gangrel. Solomon entered the city just before Issac's leadership, despite being blood hunted by various Santa Carla Princes over time. Issac's seneschal, the Gangrel called Madison was temporarily put in charge, while the city tried to form an new political power structure. The prominent kindred of Santa Carla gathered to debate their future of Santa Carla and what political manifestation it would take the form of, they decided to stay independent and have political structure that represented that. Three Kindred ruled the city from the position of Magistrate-- Randal Lake of Ventrue, Jason Black of Gangrel, and Bambi of Brujah. Randal Lake left the city (only latter to be found having meet final death at the hands of a mysterious assassination in San Francisco), and Bambi was killed by the returning Duran Montoya. Jason Black stepped down, after holding an election where three new Magistrates were chosen. They were; Lady Suzette du Torville of clan Ventrue, Daniel Anagee of clan Brujah and Kelvin Jamin of clan Giovanni. Lady du Torvill (revealed to be a Malkavian) was caught working for the mysterious "Vampires" from the East and hiring several thugs to kill her political rival, Michael of clan Brujah. Kelvin Jamin, was quietly taken out back and slaughtered one night, the circumstances were never fully discovered. However the list of individuals who would want to kill him was no doubt only surpassed by their numerous reasons to get rid of the two faced Jamin. This left Daniel in charge of the city. This was about the time their was kind of a collective realization that the Magistrate system was a total bust, three heads are not better then one, unless totally efficient government is your goal. The prominent members of the city once again gathered together and to choose to a course that the city would sail. This time, they chose a single leader in the form of Elizabeth, of Clan Nosferatu. She choose the title of Governor, and .... attempted to take the rains of power. Elizabeth had a number of interesting ideas as to exactly what qualities a leader should show to her people; she was obviously interested in "talking things out", hearing everyone's point of view and perhaps the quality most noted by her subjects ... letting her sheriff Kaergon Roshe make any and all decisions on her behalf. Shortly after taking up the mantle of power, the new Governor of Santa Carla faked her own death (poorly), and left Santa Carla to see if she could be of any use in the Sabbat wars to the Camarilla (or perhaps to get in touch with her "inner vampire"). The city once again got together and choose a new leader. Although it should be noted that at this point the city had severely streamlined the process, due the overwhelming amount of experience they had accumulated in this area. They Choose Jason Black of Clan Gangrel, the reluctant prince. Jason Black in turn Choose Jigga of Clan Brujah as his Schelechal. Jason Black, the former sheriff under Issac, very competently ruled the city. First he took the title of prince, he realized early on that every leader before him who took the title other than prince, had meet with misfortune. He did his best hold the city together. Among the problems that he dealt with was the Center for Disease control trying to "cure" vampirism, (unfortunately, a throw the baby out with the bath water solution), frequent breaches of the masquerade and a lack of a real powerbase, and a sire that would just not leave him alone, as well of a slew of other problems that spring from Santa Carla just being Santa Carla. When things briefly
slowed down, Jay reproduced (in the form of Spence) and stepped down from
power to go walkabout. He declared that Jigga would be prince. Jigga a
respected, trusted and feared member of the Cainite community was accepted
with almost no descent. When he took the reins of power he used them wisely.
He held the position far longer than any predecessor in recent memory,
and gained a level of respect from vampires outside the domain, a level
not known since the rein of Jeremy Archer. The city was still independent,
but closely followed Camarilla traditions and structure. More than one
Kindred made note of the fact that the domain seemed to not be Camarilla
in name only. |
