Santa Carla By Night

History of the Domain, Part III

Part I - Part II - Part III - Part IV - Part V - Part VI

A few years latter, a mysterious member of the Inconnnu came to town. He invited a number kindred of diverse backgrounds to the city for what can best be called a "social experiment". He wanted to see what would happen when this diverse group of kindred were put together and left to decide their own fate. What type of government would they form? Would they make the same mistakes as those who came before them?

The city was lead by a Gangrel Prince that favored a Camarilla form of government. He lead the city for only a short time before releasing the city to its own volition. Once this was given, the young kindred who now lived in the city fought amongst themselves with no clear powerful leadership.

Eventually, the leadership of Dorian of Clan Brujah came to the forefront of leadership. He led the city for a time, while the city wavered between being Anarch and Camarilla. Each clan was equally represented at this time and struggling to find a place in the new city. This lead to many odd situations; where many normally independent clans had representation, and many of the normally represented clans were absent. There was a great deal of death at this time, as clans fought for representation and between themselves relatively unchecked.

Also during this time, there was a major problem with clans being infiltrated by various outsiders. This included two Setites in Clan Toreador, Tzimesce in both Clan Toreador and Clan Nosferatu, and also a pack of Sabbat infiltrators slowly climbing up the ranks of power in the city, eventually including three Primogen seats, and Harpy positions. This city problem eroded the power of the once strong Toreador until they became only a minor power, and this also caused the steady growth of Clans Gangrel and Brujah in size.

These various problems also eroded Prince Dorian's power, which caused him to leave town in disgust. This left a gap in power, which was filled by the popular and anarchistic Brujah, Becca. The city was continuing this open and unstructured tendency. Eventually it got to the point where the Gangrel Cage took an interest in the city, attempting to force it to act more Camarilla.

During these problems, the Camarilla continued attempts to force Santa Carla to act more within the interests of the Camarilla. They sent a powerful Ventrue known as "The Don" to rule over the city, appointing the fiercely anti-Sabbat Duran Montoya of the Lasombra Antitribu as his seneschal. During this time, the city was ruled under an iron fist, which seemed to cause the Sabbat pack that had been infiltrating since the city to attack the city in hopes of spreading enough chaos for the Sabbat to get a better foothold. This attack was repelled and the city began to recover. Unfortunately, the sheer city status of these Sabbat members disgusted the Don so much that he declared the city unsalvageable and left, along with both his Seneschal and Camarilla backing. Taking advantage of the problem, the city also had a disturbing and mostly unseen residence of many corrupting influences, including a demon by the name of Mr. Dark, and a heavy influence by wraiths.

After a brief power struggle between representatives of Clans Ventrue and Toreador, Jean-Luc of Clan Ventrue took power. During this time, the actions of the city's mystics, including insight by Tremere and Malkavian populations, made it possible to fight back the problem of the slow corruption of the city by, "Mr. Dark" a demon attempting to corrupt the city, and various wraith problems. Even so, the city was touched by this corruption and has continued to be of interest to wraiths.

Jean-Luc had come into power with opposition, including that from Johnny Star of Clan Toreador, and during his reign was forced to banish his opponent due to an assassination attempt. This action, as well as others that secured his position, made him rather unpopular and, despite a lack of a replacement, he ended up losing his power by being voted out by the still powerful Primogen council.

At this point, Stevie Ray, Seneschal under Jean-Luc, took the mantle for two weeks, with the warning that he would serve in the post only to ease the transition to the new Prince that the populous would have to choose.

While the city was still Camarilla, William Garcia was sent down as a representative to express the concern of the Camarilla, primarily that the domain lacked stability. This was ultimately a dangerous thing that could have far reaching implications. Issac, the Brujah Primogen at the time decided as a result of these concerns he would take the princedom. After Stevie Ray's two weeks were up, the growing anarchistic tendencies of the city were shown with the appointing of Isaac of Clan Brujah as Prince.

Isaac was Prince for many months and lead the city into a strange new era of organization. Although not with out obstacles such as a foolish Toreador bringing in a reporter to a meeting of the populous of the city, who published quite a bit of masquerade breaking information. Additionally he had to contend with his own child becoming one of the Sabbat and taking several of the Brujah clan over with him.
