History of the DomainThe History of the Domain Compiled From Anonymous First Hand Accounts, Wherever Possible The city of Santa Carla's first prince was Max Von Kaos. He was a Tremere of I believe 8th gen. He moved here and took authority in the wilds, back when the Camarilla wasn't paying little attention to the New World. He was determined to create and maintain an outpost against any future threats. Already here however, was an ancient enigma. A "Kindred" by the name of Ursa had been roving the west coast of California since the early 16th century. No one knew much about him, but it was rumored that he had strong ties with a tribe of Garou or werewolves who had lived in this area. Inevitably, other Kindred moved west, just as their prey did. Quite often they were seeking they same ideals and opportunities as the mortals. The Ventrue made their presence known in this coastal town by purchasing most of what is known now as the beach flats, the river flats, and the old Chinatown where the university lies today, preparing for very long term goals. This focus on property left many other aspects of the city free for the taking. The Brujah and Toreador split the downtown area, and the churches were fought over by the Malkavians and an elder of Nosferatu. Another Kindred built his domain near the now forgotten city of Branciforte, on what became first known as Castle Beach, now referred to as Seabright Beach. Little is known, for he kept to himself, even the ruins have disappeared with time. When the gold rush hit, the Town experienced an absurd swelling of vampiric population. It was an ideal location for a haven, as it was a crossing point, bringing news and vitae from all over the state. Due to it's climate, locale and tourism, tensions have remained high to this day between the factions of the bloated Kindred society in Santa Carla. In the 20th century, Max somehow had convinced Ursa to remain as his body guard. Considering Max's well known intolerance for Caitiff, it is unclear how he was able to do this. One of Max's edicts was that all Caitiff were either to be slain or forcibly blood bound to him, but it is not believed that Max had managed to Blood Bind Ursa. The Brujah were ironically the most loyal to the prince's desires. They spent the entire prohibition era stalking and killing caitiff and members of the non-Camarilla clans. This was justified as shutting down the figures behind the rampant bootlegging and other Mafia activities. The extent to which the Brujah were involved in causing these problems is unclear to this day. By the mid-twentieth century, the city's primogen had firmed up nicely, drawn by the growth of population and level of culture that the new University had brought. The Toreadors immediately permeated the university culture, plundering the social and intellectual riches the Ventrue investors never intended to create. This became an expanding situation as he quantity of visionary artists and rebels attracted more of the same. The 1960s and 1970s brought wild swings in the economy, incredible advancements in technology and the swelling of moral population. Kindred with powers unseen in the Western Hemisphere were beginning to immigrate form around the world to the Americas. Meanwhile, a new generation of Kindred with wildly different values swept the globe. This all led to shifts in the old local power balance. Balo, the 7th generation Malkavian elder was befriended by one of the faerie courts and was known to have been present at the Council of Thorns. He still maintains a haven in town, although he no longer slumbers in it. The local Gangrel pack was led by an elusive elder by the name of Thadeus, whose childe and grandchilder comprised most of the clan. He eventually took his brood and left, when pressured by other Gangrel for equality in this town. Max's zealous lieutenant, Jean-Michel, had the run of the Tremere clan. Though the prince seemed to watch him closely, many rumors spread about Jean-Michel's true masters... The Brujah were led by one known as Lobo, old enough to conceal the rage of his blood line, making him extremely dangerous. The Nosferatu primogen was seldom seen, and went by no single name. His whereabouts and true identity was always cloaked in shadow. He was known to a few as 3Nick2 and spent much time with trafficking between the Tremere and the Ventrue. The budding population
of both mortal and Kindred, and the philosophical disputes between the
young and old within each clan lead to a civil war in Santa Carla in the
very early 1990s. Covert agents of the Sabbat are known to have been involved
in the little Jyhad, playing the Santa Carla Kindred against each other.
This was the first interest the Sabbat had ever had shown in Santa Carla.
