HISTORY
OF CLAN SETHIAN:
The Sethian
Bloodline is the direct result of one of the most controversial
forays into kindred history in recent times.
A Setite named
Eliot Cole had, while infiltrating the Tremere Clan, uncovered evidence
that the Antidiluvian Set may have not always been what everybody
- including his followers believed him to be. Alternate legends
indicated that Set (or "Seth") was the God of strength , rather
than darkness, and that the battle between Seth and Horus was actually
some kind of contest. Seth lost, but was still given the task of
protecting the sun barge from the great Serpent Apep during the
ship's nightly foray into the Underworld. Eliot believed that
there may have been some truth to this legend; if so, then the "Apep"
described may have been some manifestation of what the Garu call
"The Wyrm", and that Seth may have been ultimately corrupted
by it.
This theory
was initially dismissed by the majority of the clan, but certain
documents dating back to the Convention of Thorns made references
to the "Ancient Ox" (a Set Symbol that corresponds to the
god's semiotic representation in his aspect as Seth). Finding
certain Setites who knew of an old temple which contained similar
information, Cole continued his research and finally accepted his
theory as a viable one. Further, Cole reasoned that if the above
was true; then it was possible that both the philosophies and the
disciplines of the clan were different that they are today. Eliot
resolved to unravel this complex enigma.
Eliot (who
held a degree in Philosophy) developed a distinct Path of Enlightenment
called the Way of the Ox and the Ass, and indoctrinated the members
of the Cult that he controlled. Then using certain thaumaturgic
rituals of his own design, embrassed one of the cultists. The newly
created kindred became a unique being possessing disciplines reflecting
the raw power of body and spirit.
Having proven
(at least Superficially) his theory, Cole... with the aid of several
allies- including several Tremere, Setites and a Toreador - who
had been assisting him covertly, engaged in a final , massive ritual
which had two results: Coles Sacrifice of his own life-force, and
the transformation of several dozen Setites around the world into
the Sethian Bloodline.
Originally,
the Sethians had based themselves on a remote island in the Pacific;
recent events have shrunk down their (already small) numbers, effectively
scattering them across the globe, principally within the United
States. Another aspect of the group was their separatist position
within the Clan. This has also fallen by the wayside, as the Sethians
are now considered to be a very focused subgroup of the Warrior
faction.
