Frequestly Asked Questions Clan Book:L O T H O R I A N - Revised By Robert D Mathis-Friedman Based on concepts created by Jack Dracula & inspired by the Movies "Lost Boys" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Introduction Since the sweeping changes that occurred since the publication of VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE, 3rd EDITION, I have found it necessary to create a new version of the original Clanbook that I wrote for the mysterious and brutal Children of Lothos. Within, you will find some interesting revisions (and revisionism) that may or may not jibe with what has gone before. Hopefully, you will come to believe, as I do, that these changes actually enhance the balance and aesthetics required for using such an engaging Bloodline in a World of Darkness setting. Included are not only mechanical adjustments and corrections, but also some new information and rumours regarding the Lothorian place in the scheme of things during the Final Nights (tm). Before we begin with the Clan Book proper, lets stretch out mental legs with some FAQs. If the Lothorians are supposed to be some kind of Eastern Vampire offshoot, then why dont their powers and nature conform to the Cathayans as they are depicted in KINDRED OF THE EAST? Should I adjust them accordingly, like White Wolf (tm) did with the Gaki and the Bushi?
The concept that the Lothorian Clan originated in the Far East is a rather complicated one: it was a theory put forth by a Malkavian scholar, not actual history (at least as far as anyone can tell), now largely discounted. It may be true that the Bloodline had its origins somewhere in the "East" (although how one might define "East" is another story), but it is now obvious that the Nightflyers and the Kuei-Jin do not share mystical origins. Lothorians are clearly some kind of "Cainite".
I hate the idea that Lothorians also have Protean. Vampires with unique signature Disciplines should keep those Disciplines unique.
I agree. My guess is that, when J.D. created the Bloodline, he was attempting to find a way to simulate the bestial features that the characters, who inspired the Bloodline, take on when in hunting mode. In the interest of keeping True Protean in the hands . . . er, claws . . . of the Gangrel, where they belong, a lesser version of Protean, Praetori, has been devised and will be detailed later in this work.
Are there Lothorians who openly participate in the Jyhad?
Lothorians, by and large, arent even aware of the Jyhad. On the other had, one might imagine that there may be one or two Lothorians who may be "open" about their lineage and are members of one or more of the Sects, particularly the Sabbat, as will be discussed later. It should be stressed, however, that the few Elders of the Bloodline that are versed in the Kindred World tend to eschew standard Cainite mythology and find the entire concept of Jyhad, Gehenna, and the Final Nights to be nothing more than self-fulfilling prophecy on the part of the Sects; a combination of their own hubris and guilt.
What Path should my Lothorian follow?
All Lothorians are indoctrinated in a way of thinking very similar to the Path of Cathari by the time that they are Embraced (if the Sire has time to do it in the traditional way). To answer the next question: Yes, a Lothorian can learn other Paths or Roads, including Humanity. Okay, so much for the FAQs. On with the show.
